Officers Sword ( Rifle Volunteers )
A pre-1890 Victorian
officers sword to the rifle volunteers pierced hanging infantry
horn to the 1/2 basket hand guard
and lightly etched to the polished blade. The blade has
been religiously cleaned and the etch to both sides of the blade
is faded although the regimental crest and royal cypher are

ITEM : SW209 - EICKHORN Nr.1312
Leopard Head Officers Sword
A crossed sword langet
attributes this model to a cavalry officer, it has 90% gilt
remaining with exquisite detail and grip that is undamaged. The
blade is in perfect condition and totally unmarked and has the
rare double oval Eickhorn trademark. A period knot that has lost
the coating to the leather strap and a scabbard missing the
throat assembly, however is does not affect insertion and has
not marked the blade. One slight door jam to lower third.

ITEM : SW210 - UNKNOWN Wurtemburg
Artillery Officers Sword
Brass "P" shaped plain
hilt. Single langet showing pinned Artillery motif, no scabbard
and includes original knot. Blade shows heavy patina and no sign
of cleaning...ever, also traces of possible engraving.
Believed to be from Franco - Prussian war period 1870-1871,
although I am open to discussion!. The wood to the grip has
shrunk over years along with the sharkskin covering and the
knuckle guard is deformed. An early sword that has seen it all.

ITEM : SW211 - HORSTER " ROON "
Dove Head Officers Sword
This German "Roon" pattern sword
displays the engraved hilt fittings that were not so popular
with the German officers as the chiseled hilt fittings. Hence
these have become scarce in today's market. This pattern
although similar to the Eickhorn "1716" page 81 of Angolia's
swords of Germany has differences and I was unable to find
another known example by Horster. Sword is in excellent
condition retaining much of the original gilt, blade is clean
and the scabbard un-dented. Also has the remains of the leather
finger loop. Clean and rare.

ITEM : SW212 - UNKNOWN Japanese NCO
Dress Sword
A standard prison or civil authority Japanese dress
sword in very good condition. The hilt fittings are crisp and
displays good detailing to the engraved brass pierced
hand-guard. The wire wrap is un-damaged and the blade shows only
minor spotting with evidence remaining of the original waved
edge temper line. It also has the original leather buffer and
the scabbard could possibly have had a re-paint as these are
normally seen aluminium coloured. Never been apart and never
tampered with. Watch out for the numerous fakes on this pattern.

ITEM : SW213 - UNKNOWN Japanese Naval
Prison Officers Sword
The painted white hilt
denotes a naval attachment for the original owner of this sword,
I have been told it is a prison officials or officers short
sword that would have had a chain running between the twin rings
on the hilt fittings. The scabbard is unfortunately lost but the
tempered blade remains in excellent condition. To hold, the
sword is fearsome and perfectly balanced, the blade is very
sharp with a factory edge and these remain highly collectable.
The release button is functional and original leather buffer is
in place. Never had this one apart.

ITEM : SW214 - ALCOSO Unattributed Dove
Head Officers Sword
This unattributed
model sword by Alcoso is scarce due to the fact that both the
obverse and reverse langets bear an identical sprig of oak
leaves and does not carry the national symbol of the Third Reich
period. The fittings retain much of the original gilt and is
heavily chaste especially down the length of the backstrap. The
celluloid grip material does have a split in the usual place due
to shrinkage over time and the blade although it has all of the
original plating intact with no tarnish or grey, it does have
fine scratches affecting both sides as though it has been used
to cut a hedge!. It has not been sharpened.
