This 3rd pattern Holler army dagger was damaged
en-route to a customer by the postal service and sustained a
bent blade tip which affects approximately 1.5" and was
consequently returned. The scabbard is NOT damaged!. Otherwise rated as
Excellent the
blade has almost full crossgrain with a few very slight edge
knocks and a clear burnished trademark. Fitted with textbook
quality Holler parts, the dagger shows excellent detail to
the fittings and is heavily silvered which has darkened to
an even, almost black patina with some evidence of the
original lacquer still visible on the crossguard.
The grip is the plaster filled variety indicating that this
dagger is a later war production and is in very good stable
condition, the blade has the Fredericus cross stamped into
the tang. The scabbard is also typical Holler production,
with the throat retained by one small central flat head
screw, a little plating loss to the sides of the shell but
also with evidence of the lacquer still visible. A very nice
dagger that would easily command an additional $200 without
the blade damage.
It maybe possible for somebody with the skills or
knowledge to be able to straighten the blade tip or
certainly improve its current appearance.
