ITEM: D106 I
have owned several Alcoso made army daggers
over the years and one trait I have come
across specific to this maker is that they
fixed the pommel in place during
manufacture. When I received this dagger the
pommel had been forced and threaded and it
was fixed temporarily with resin or glue for
display purposes. Although normally observed
with white grips ( that remain white ) there
are numerous ACS daggers that have surfaced
bearing a rarer orange toned grip.
The unique flared pommel on Alcoso
manufactured German army daggers meant that
many also had a unique grip shape, this is
one such dagger.
It is very dirty and every time I look at it I am tempted to reach for the
semi-chrome. The fittings still show good
detail under the muck and both the
crossguard and pommel are aluminium or pot
metal based. The blade is clearly marked
with the scarce post 1941 sideways AWS
trademark, with some light greying visible
to the blade. Eickhorn scabbard.
