ITEM:
D104 This dagger
features the Weyersburg 2nd crossguard from
WKC. A scarce configuration that was only
used for a very short transitional period in
1936, it is fitted with early production
parts including a tapered tang blade, early
hand enhanced pommel and scabbard bands and
a type B grip that is caramel toned and
slightly lighter in shade to the rear side
of the grip. The crossguard is very well
detailed and an excellent example of this
rare configuration, the whole dagger
displays uniform silvering and patina
throughout and was silvered to a very high
standard, the scabbard is flawless and
un-dented with the throat being retained
with two dome headed side screws. The
scabbard band seams have been disguised with
hand chiseled acorns. The blade is well
marked with the WKC trademark, clear legible
and burnished, the blade itself is
excellent, good crossgrain visible and with
only a couple of areas of very light graying
that you really need to look for. As
mentioned before the blade tang is the
earlier tapered variety, exactly as it
should be on a dagger from WKC bearing this
assemblage of parts and being an early
production dagger. The pommel is the 12 leaf
type and heavily hand enhanced and chiseled,
a joy to see the workmanship and attention
to detail undertaken by the craftsman that
assembled this piece. A very nice dagger, in
a rare configuration and from one of the
premium makers of the period.
