ITEM : C125 -
Silver (.800) Marked Italian
Mountain Troops Medallion & Police Day Badge (Marked '15')
These two are both 100% original.
The badge is a German Police day badge and the medallion is
silver marked and for an Italian Alpine unit based at Gemona in
the Udine Province.
The police badge is a late zinc maker marked example, originally
silver washed, this has long since been absorbed by the base
metal. The detail is still very crisp and the retaining pin is
strong and intact. Dated 1942 the maker I was unable to
attribute although I am sure the information would be readily
available from specialised collectors.
The Italian medallion is a great looking item and totally unique
in as far as I have never seen another. It appears to be a
shooting award and from further research "MAI DAUR" was the
Gemona Alpine Battalions unit motto which translates as "NEVER
BEHIND". Showing some wear to the surface coating the medal is
clearly marked 800 ( silver ) however it does not appear to be
solid silver. A specialised item for a very desirable Battalion
and not something you are likely to come across very often.
A period unit picture is shown below that I came across while researching
this medallion. |
