ITEM: C111 A minty KS98
Dress bayonet by Robert Klaas with a very
nice original twist. Starting with the
bayonet itself, a standard long and heavily
silver plated KS98 bayonet by Klaas with all
plating intact, totally unworn and with
little wear to any of the normal areas, even
the domed grip rivets look like new. The
grip plates are exceptional with the diamond
cut bakelite pattern totally crisp and as
new and a perfect fit to the un-blemished
plated hilt. The blade is excellent with a
couple of VERY minor patches of small grey
spidering and with a heavily stamped twin
storks Klaas trademark, very visible and
virtually as new.
Onto the scabbard......this period leather covered dress bayonet scabbard
is totally original and unusual and the fit
and hand stitching is outstanding. I have no
idea if this was a factory addition or a
made to order enhancement but the quality is
too good to be a personal addition. The fit
of the leather to the scabbard retaining lug
suggests that this cover has never been off
since the day it was installed, in fact it
would be virtually impossible to remove
without damaging or splitting the leather.
The whole leather ensemble has acquired a
fantastic handling patina in a deep cherry
red and I think it is safe to say that the
scabbard itself under the leather will be in
a mint condition although the exposed throat
itself does have some paint loss.
A very nice collectable bayonet in exceptional condition and with a very
nice addition that sets this bayonet apart
from the normal KS98 Dress bayonets from
Klaas.
