ITEM: C101 A very nice
un-cleaned and original German army officers
dagger by Weyersburg & Kirschbaum here.
Fitted with the final ( 3rd pattern )
Tomahawk style cross-guard and fittings,
this piece is in very fine condition. Still
showing original lacquer to the hilt
fittings and scabbard and adding protection
from the elements, the original frosting
remains intact with little patination caused
by air penetrating beneath the lacquer.
Although on first impressions this dagger
appears to be of later production, it is
matched with an early production WKC
scabbard and has all the traits of being an
early assembly with thick high quality
silver plating and heavily lacquered. There
is a chance that this dagger is a tapered
tang example although the piece has not been
taken down to assess.
The blade is very nice with a couple of light runner marks that would
probably clean and a fully burnished
trademark. The scabbard has suffered a door
dent to the reverse but does not affect the
insertion of the blade. Very unusual to see
the original lacquer still in place to the
scabbards as so many have suffered excessive
cleaning over the years, it stands testament
that this dagger is totally in original
condition. The grip is good with evidence of
a couple of very minor chips under the
ferrule seating, hardly visible unless you
looked for them.
This assembly is being offered with and without accoutrements although it
would obviously be preferred to see them
sold and kept together as a unit, it is
getting extremely hard to find army officers
daggers still with the original frosting and
lacquer in place. A great piece!.
