ITEM : BC306 -
44cvl K98 Bayonet ( Match )
*RIVETED* LAST KNOWN EXAMPLE MADE IN 1944
BY WKC
THE latest known manufactured 1944
bayonet produced by WKC ( cvl ) and has been rated on the rarity
scale as being alongside 1945 produced K98 bayonets. The serial
number shown is officially listed on the Bayonet Collectors
Network and has been recognised as being the LATEST known
example of only 12 matching wooden gripped items produced by WKC
from the 4 last letter blocks.
The company moved to producing wooden gripped examples on the
m through to p block and these have been observed either
riveted or with bolt / spanner combinations, after early o
block, only riveted examples have been recorded, this is one of
only two recorded matching bayonets produced in the o to p
blocks.
During this last 4 letter block period of 1944, 27 examples have
been recorded with only 12 coming as a matching set. The one on
offer is the latest of all WKC manufactured bayonets recorded
during 1944 and has the bonus of being a matching set.
My thanks to L.Adams.
The bayonet itself is not mint and shows all characteristics of
being a late war manufactured bayonet, it shows no signs of
bluing to either the hilt, blade or scabbard and the blade shows
crude finishing especially to the fuller. The locking mechanism
is in full working order and the hilt is ampt marked waA519. The
scabbard and blade are both marked 44cvl & 3822p and the grips
are intact with no damage or chips. Complete with a period frog
that is intact and has a centred retaining strap.
