ITEM : B302 - EVERTZ Etched Stag Handled
Long Dress Bayonet
This piece was made by the seldom seen maker A.Evertz. The stag
grips are very well ridged and show no signs of wear and are
held in place with two screw to spanner type fasteners. It has
suffered from plating loss and was obviously a well worn item.
The blade, with the exception of the engraving is mint having
never been sharpened and displays the usual Evertz monogram, the
blade tip is also sharp and retains full plating. Knife to
scabbard is a good fit and has approx 90-95% paint remaining
with losses to the usual places around where the frog would have
seated.
Onto the
engraving :
The obverse side of the blade has 4 separate quotes from time
served in different places and also the owners name " Franz
Winkenhoff", the inscription reads,
1) Rekrateart. Quakenbruck' 7. Komp. 10.11.1938 - 16.4.1939
( Recruit time at Quakenbruck with 7th
Division between 10.11.1938 - 16.4.1939 )
2) 16.4.39 Quakenbruck 2.9.39 7. Techn. Flyclust.Rgt
82
( 16.4.39 At Quakenbruck 2.9.39 In 7th
Division Technical Air Traffic Control. 82nd Regiment )
3) 18.4.39 Jutterbog 31.6.39 7.Techn.Schule
( 18.4.39 At Juterbog 31.6.39 In 7th
Division Technical School )
4) 3.9.39 Bernburg Techn. Komp.
( 3.9.39 At Bernburg Technical Division
)
The reverse side is etched simply " Leon Family ".
The
inscriptions obviously detail his initial training for Air
Traffic Control and after a little research " Quakenbruck "
is near Bramsche which was home to a field airbase
during the war, I have not researched the owner himself,
who I am sure would not be difficult to trace!.
